Of the four low-cost airlines we compare — Ryanair, Wizz Air, Volotea and Vueling — Volotea is the only one where the bag rarely beats the fare — just 14% of its 694 routes. But not because the bag is cheap: it is because its flights cost more, 45 € typically against Ryanair's 23 €.

How they price it
Volotea does publish a price list, plainly, in its fees table: the 10 kg bag is advertised «from 6 €». That little word, from, does all the work — there is no maximum beside it, and the figure you actually pay only shows up inside the booking. So we opened one 55 times, across different routes and dates, to see which number comes out.
